More than 30 years ago, when computers and the Internet were not popularized, professor Tai-Wai Chan had already taken the initiative to study digital learning as the subject of his doctoral dissertation and was committed to promoting intelligent learning companions, and intelligent tutoring systems, and Asian scholars in Taiwan. EduCities, Smart Classroom, Seamless Learning, Tomorrow School, Tomorrow Planet, and develop interest-driven creator (IDC) theory with a group of Asian scholars. He is a pioneer in digital learning and a benchmark figure leading the global digital learning trend.

Since 2008, Tai-Wai Chan has developed courses based on the model of "interest-driven learning", shifting the traditional "teaching-centered" to "learning-centered", and promoted Modeled Sustained Silent Reading (MSSR). In 2018, he put his 30-year research experience into practice, and created the "Interest-Driven Creator International Experimental Education" (Interest-Driven Creator theory, later referred to as IDC) with the purpose of interest and creativity, becoming the first non-profit personal teaching reading experiment in Taiwan. In 2019, he earned the Executive Yuan's Science and Technology Contribution Award, and in 2020, he also earned the Ministry of Education's 24th Annual National Chair Professorship and was awarded by President Tsai Ing-wen.

At present, this laboratory focuses on the four aspects of reading, writing, mathematics, and English, based on the IDC's creator theory, combined with AI big data technology, for digital learning research, including game-based learning, ubiquitous learning, and individualization learning, Independent study, and group cooperative study. In addition, Professor Tai-Wai Chan has also invested in the University Social Responsibility Practice Project (USR) of the Ministry of Education to promote reading and interest-driven subject learning in all primary and secondary schools in Fuxing District, Taoyuan City. 三十多年前，在電腦及網路未普及的年代，本實驗室主持人陳德懷教授就已洞燭機先，以數位學習作為博士論文主題，在臺灣致力推動智慧學習同伴、智慧家教、亞卓市、智慧教室、無縫學習、明日學校、明日星球等系統，並與一群亞洲學者共同發展興趣驅動創造者（IDC）理論。他是數位學習的先驅，也是引領全球數位學習趨勢的標竿人物。 

2008年起，陳德懷以「興趣驅動學習」模式發展課程，把傳統「以教為中心」轉移為「以學為中心」，推動身教式持續安靜閱讀（MSSR）。2018年，他更將30年來的研究心得付諸實踐，以興趣和創造為宗旨，創設「趣創者國際實驗教育」（Interest-Driven Creator，後簡稱IDC），成為全國唯一非營利身教閱讀實驗教育。2019年榮獲行政院科技貢獻獎，2020年亦得到國家獎座的殊榮，由蔡英文總統親自頒獎。
